Is there an application process to join JSA?

There is no application process to join JSA. Come talk to our presidents or any of the officers and they can help you join JSA. If you would like to join after our call outs, contact us through our Contact page or ask for membership at any of our Events or General Meetings!

Do I have to speak Japanese in JSA?

No, our meetings and events are held in English. Japanese will be spoken by some members and officers; however, English is the primary language used in JSA.

Do you have to be Japanese to join JSA?

No, you do not have to be Japanese to join JSA. We welcome anyone who wants to experience Japanese culture, eat Japanese food, socialize with others, etc.

Is there a membership fee for JSA? If so, how much is it and how can I pay for it?

There is a general membership fee for JSA. The cost is $10 if you join at the beginning of the academic year; $5 if you join second semester.

We accept cash, check, credit & debit cards, Apple Pay, and Android Pay. In exchange for your payment, we will provide you with member-only discount card for shops around the West Lafayette-Lafayette area!

Are all JSA events free? If not, how much do they cost?

Not all JSA events are free. To allow funds for future events, we may have a small fee (usually less than $5) for an event.

I missed the call out! Can I still join JSA?

You absolutely can join JSA even if you missed the call out. We accept membership on a rolling-basis, meaning you can ask and become a member anytime of the year. Send us an email or message through Facebook and we’ll let you know when & where you can obtain membership.

I just moved to the Greater Lafayette area. Could you help me?

Yes! We know that moving to a new environment can be challenging and difficult. If you ever need help finding accommodation, basic services, etc., please do not hesitate to contact us through our contact page. Emails sent in English or Japanese will be read. Other languages may result in some time before a response is sent out.
